Guabuliga Foodscapes

While we were preparing for Ghana, I already knew that I wanted to do research on the food there and to display my newly gained knowledge of food production and preparation in Guabuliga in a photographic work.

On location, I had the opportunity to plan local dishes with a local lady, go buy the ingredients at the market, and take a series of photos documenting the cooking process. Dishes like Banku with Okra Stew and the local main dish, TZ with Allefu Soup, were jointly prepared over these days and photographed by myself.

The next series looks at the street vendors in Guabuliga, their strategic positioning in the village, and their settings for specific dishes, necessary containers, and selected furniture. There are different spatial scenarios and types of sales, for example, a table for cooking, or simply a bench in the schoolyard, as well as different types of dishes corresponding to demand and the time of day in which they were sold.

Another series documents the sowing, planting, harvesting, drying, and storage of foods.
