The ATLAS OF HABITATS was officially launched on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at University of Applied Arts Vienna. This dynamic website and database is designed to foster new connections between the unique worlds of various beings. During the event, visitors were introduced to the database/website by EXEX Studio and the project team. The audience had the opportunity to explore the website on a large screen and on their personal devices.
The presentation also featured interventions by the two [A]FA students, Apoorva Thapa and Maria Bürger, who participated in the [A]FA Lab between April and August and traveled to Liberia as part of the project. The [A]FA team conducted interviews with beekeepers, eco-guards, and teachers in Liberia. Apoorva Thapa directed the films and created a three-screen installation, while Maria Bürger developed an immersive VR installation featuring scanned habitats and designed an AR-based memory game that shares key information and insights from their findings.
The Atlas was conceptualized by Philipp Reinsberg and Magdalena Pietryszyn as part of the INTRA project Interspecies Nursery and developed with [Applied] Foreign Affairs, Baerbel Mueller (head), Apoorva Thapa, Maria Bürger, and designed by EXEX Studio Vienna.
